We Are Anxious About Potential Israeli Actions If They Seize Our Vessel, But We Are Not Turning Back.
This marks the concluding text I will compose prior to either outcome materializing: either our vessel reaches Gaza, or Israel seizes our ship. We expect to reach around October 9th, following our journey the waters from late September.
Recently, we saw the seizure conducted by Israel the personnel from the initial Global Sumud flotilla immediately preceding intended delivery. This is likely the same moment when Israel may attempt to capture our boats from the Thousand Madleens and Freedom Flotilla Coalition.
Sailing Amid Risky Situations
Our subsequent convoy has continued sailing amid numerous accounts concerning the fate of the earlier activists. When we were off Cyprus, getting ready for overnight duty amid concerns about an unknown aerial vehicle, we were informed that Israel had illegally commandeered the primary aid vessels in international waters.
Subsequent sunrise presented concerning updates as I performed routine tasks: washing plastic bowls in the limited kitchen space, monitoring my device regularly while Israel progressively captured the remainder of the flotilla.
This situation has simply enhanced our united commitment to continue our mission.
Living Conditions Aboard
During this voyage phase, I've established a routine. My sleep schedule involves resting between evening and early morning, then handling nighttime monitoring through early morning, managing another two hours later completing five cumulative hours. Additional rest remains unattainable between turbulent waves and frequent disturbances from shared accommodation.
My bed comprises a slim mattress positioned above the couch in the communal zone. Daily I get clothed inside my sleeping bag during morning beverage preparation in close proximity. Multiple factors of communal existence with six other individuals within limited nautical space demand considerable adjustment.
- You cannot remain stationary in specific spots indefinitely without obstructing others.
- Despite these challenges, we enjoy positive relationships.
- Unified mission supports as does our crew's expertise.
- Their professional knowledge creates contagious calm.
The Journey's Objective
The healthcare materials and child feeding formula packed in the rear compartment and steering zone of our craft could save numerous lives provided we complete our mission. During a recent interview, an interviewer proposed they considered our journey representative because prevention looked unavoidable.
Considered remotely, this understanding could appear reasonable. But, subsequent to traveling more than seven days with relief supplies everywhere around you, aware of its exact placement, maintaining hope becomes essential to access requiring populations.
Beyond Humanitarian Aid
But, distributing resources constitutes more than the mission's final objective. Representatives regularly ask regarding our refusal to let their handling of our resources. Beyond reasonable distrust concerning implementation amid extended limitations, accepting such arrangements would indirectly endorse authority concerning maritime zones.
Concerning Updates
Additional accounts surfaced concerning the initial activists: movement to Negev facility, categorization as undocumented migrants notwithstanding involuntary transfer from international waters. Information suggested refusal of fundamental requirements including water, medicine and food, combined with humiliating conduct and occasional violence from prison authorities.
Current numbers showed numerous mission members were removed with 138 remaining detained.
Wider Perspective
These situations seem terrible yet they pale in comparison to the institutional mistreatment experienced by detained Palestinians within the same facilities. Documented cases include deadly force leading to mortality lacking following responsibility concerning participating officers.
Rights monitoring groups have extensively recorded prevalent abusive techniques and sexual violence incidents within detention centers. Despite worldwide outrage regarding flotilla participants' treatment continues appropriate and crucial, similar attention has been lacking for Palestinian suffering during years of struggle.
Dawn Contemplations
Every sunrise I witness the boundless blue ocean and the fading lunar presence ahead of subsequent daylight. This nautical liberty to travel enormous seas highlights the essential comprehension that our objective surpasses aid.
Autonomy for Palestinian people continues elusive and our individual rights shall stay diminished unless that independence is accomplished. This basic principle explains our continued sailing. The logic remains simple.
