A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
